Accessing your NDIS funding and transitioning to the Scheme is only half of the journey – the other half is about activating your plan and implementing the supports which meet your needs and preferences.

Our Support Coordinators will collaborate with you to understand your NDIS plan and connect you to mainstream opportunities, limiting the spend from your NDIS plan, that way you optimise the use of your funding to achieve the best outcomes for you.

Provide Support outside the Gold Coast

Our service is offered from Tweed to Brisbane, and we will travel to you. We have an extensive range of providers and mainstream opportunities across this region, ensuring you’re receiving the best choice no matter where you’re based.

Support Coordination FAQ

What does a Support Coordinator do?

A Support Coordinator supports the NDIS recipient to understand and utilize the funded supports in their plan by linking them to Daily supports, Allied Health services, mainstream opportunities, such as volunteering, and other government services

What are the different types of supports that a Support Coordinator will work with?

A Support Coordinator will help you to utilise different types of support networks to achieve your goals. This includes informal supports such as friends & family; mainstream supports including education, employment & mental health services; funded supports consisting of services such as domestic assistance or allied health; and community supports such as volunteer or community groups.

Who is eligible for Support Coordination?

The NDIS assess each participant on a case-by-case basis. Support Coordination may be considered for a participant if:

  • The participant is new to the NDIS & receiving their first plan or going through a significant change in circumstance.
  • There is a limited informal support network.
  • Would likely assist in the development of skills & confidence to
  • Are likely to gain a demonstrable benefit from having the assistance of Support Coordination.
What are the different ways my plan funding might be managed?

There are three methods of funding management under the NDIS. The LAC or NDIA planner will work with the participant to determine their funding management preferences.

  • Self-managed: The participant manages their funds independently
  • Plan managed: Services are invoiced to a plan manager who manages the funding on behalf of the participant
  • Agency managed: The NDIA pays providers on behalf of the participant
What does Support Coordination Cost?

Your funding for Support Coordination will be predetermined in your NDIS plan. It will be charged at the NDIS price guide hourly rate of $100.14.

What is a service agreement?

A service agreement is a contract that a participant will sign with their service provider. Service agreements are not mandatory but are considered preferable as it outlines terms such as payments & cancellation terms.

A service agreement is an agreement between yourself and Volunteering Gold Coast that makes it clear to what we have both agreed to. The NDIA recommends having a written service agreement to document what supports will be delivered and how they will be delivered.

Making a service agreement is a negotiation between you and us. You can involve another person, such as a family member or friend. Your Support Coordinator will assist you to understand the service agreement using the language and way of communicating you prefer.

Our service agreement is covered by consumer law and aligns with the NDIS Act 2013 and NDIS Price Guide.

How are items or services deemed ‘reasonable & necessary’?

For a service or item to be considered ‘reasonable & necessary’, the NDIS must be satisfied that it meets the following criteria:

  • must be related to a participant’s disability,
  • must not include day-to-day living costs not related to your disability support needs, such as groceries,
  • should represent value for money,
  • must be likely to be effective and work for the participant, and
  • should take into account support given to you by other government services, your family, carers, networks and the community.
